Chicken working overtime

Imagine if you were a chicken. Imagine it's the week before Easter. And imagine it's Macedonia. You'd know that this is the week of work. You'd be asked to be as productive as possible. Because..., well, it's the week before Easter and it's Macedonia.

Last Saturday, in Prilep, I already saw the results of the first shifts of over time working chicken. The green market was filled with eggs. Loads of them. Piled up everywhere. For everybody to buy to fulfill their Easter needs. And... everybody did seem to buy the eggs. Not just 10 or 20 of them. Oh, no! Not even one box of 30 looks like it's sufficient. Nope. As it appears in Prilep it needs at least 3 trays of 30 eggs to get into the mood for easter. That's 90 eggs for one family for a couple of days. Consider this on a nation wide scale. Now, let the consequences sink in for a moment.

...

It's a lot, isn't it?

As it appeared, the eggs fixation was not just a custom in Prilep. I also saw the eggs to be ready in Idrizovo last night. Idrizovo is a small village about 15 km east outside Skopje. I was there to help someone learning to speak my native tongue - dutch - but that's besides the point. And on my way out of the house, I noticed the trays of eggs. Four of them. Apparently waiting on the table to be "easterized". Even for a bigger family I'd consider this a lot of eggs. And then knowing where they have to come from. The chicken have been working hard. And as we speak, I guess that they are still working hard to meet the high demand of their products in Macedonia.

I guess this is not the last you've heard of eggs here.
